In the week of May 10-16, to show appreciation to our modern day hero – the medical workers, Minnesota Chinese American communities delivered free “Chinese food of love” to St. Joseph Hospital at St. Paul and Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) at Minneapolis.
This is a part of the nation-wide “Chinese American Food of Love Day” (May 10) initiative. The Alliance of Minnesota Chinese Organizations (AMCO) has organized this effort in Minnesota. Instead of focusing on one day, Minnesota Chinese American communities decided to extend it through out entire May.
There is a Chinese saying: “Peace and harmony won’t exist in life automatically. It exists all because someone else has been carrying the weight and shielding the harms.” In this pandemic, medical workers have been that someone.
Jing Xu, a Chinese American nurse working at HCMC said it all, “Pandemic put me in a position where I had to confront the harms, so be it. I will do all I can.”
As a community, we truly appreciate the courage and the heroic effort that the medical workers have put in their day to day work to keep us safe.
We also want to thank the restaurants, generous community members, AMCO, and volunteers to make this happen. Kindness and love will carry us through this dark time.
