Minnesota International Chinese School Won Edina Mayor’s Awards

For their outstanding contributions to local community both in education and in the fight against COVID-19, Minnesota International Chinese School and its principal, Melody Zhou, have been selected for the 2020 Mayor’s Service Organization Commendation and the 2020 Mayor’s Individual Service Commendation, respectively, by the Major of Edina City. This is the first time an organization or an individual from local Chinese communities to receive such an award. See https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/HGbPaNbEGRQ1GWuQppTJ-A for more details.

MICS began a series of fundraising efforts at the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic under Principal Zhou’s leadership. From initial donations to Wuhan, China, to efforts servicing the Minnesota community that continue today, the entire team has worked tirelessly without thought of reward. With the overwhelming support from the local communities, they have delivered tens of thousands of personal protective equipments to hospitals, fire stations, and senior centers around twin cities area. Their leadership and kind acts have been reported in many articles on our website here.

As Mayor Hovland passed out these awards, everyone present cheered for Melody and her team.

Melody and her team have set a great example for us Chinese Minnesotans. On one hand, we work hard to educate our children, and to pass on Chinese language and culture. On the other hand, we also work hard to build and server a better community.

Congratulations to Melody and her team!!
